Player lefthealer stopped casting at 15:40Holy PriestTipDivine Protection in the same breath as Sacrifice

On pace with two bosses down at 13:25, the key ended when the healer stopped casting at 15:40; your own death on Zaen was a Sacrifice you cast and then played through.

This key was not lost by anything you did. Kystia died at 8:27 and Zaen at 13:25 against a 34:01 timer — a timeable pace; the earlier key had the third boss down at 20:36. Then, in the trash after Zaen, the healer's last cast of the entire key landed at 15:40. Arcane Mage was channelled to death by Drain Life from 15:39 to 15:45 and Demo Lock from 15:59 to 16:07 with no healing on either; the healer's Fortitude left the party at 17:50 and the log stops at 18:14. A disconnect and a quit look the same from here.

Your death at 10:01 is the one thing on your sheet worth studying, and the pipeline misreads it. It says a Warehouse Worker's melee killed you; what emptied your bar was your own Blessing of Sacrifice, which moved 1,087,828 of the tank's damage onto you in 6.4 seconds — 124% of your health — an event the pipeline does not read. The instinct was right — the tank was at 7% — but your Lay on Hands 1.3 s later did the saving alone, and 97% of the transferred damage arrived after it. You then opened Avenging Wrath at 42% with the Sacrifice still running, and Divine Protection was off cooldown and unpressed.

Your damage sat at 75–80% of the lock and 85–100% of the mage in every window with all three alive, at equal item level — where the archive's same-spec control says Retribution sits next to a strong Demonology lock, not a mistake. Cooldowns, kicks and potions were on schedule.

What to change, biggest first

  1. When you Sacrifice the tank, press Divine Protection in the same breath and stop pressing damage until it ends — 30% of a tank's intake is more than your bar can hold at +15. If Lay on Hands is up, use it alone; it saves the tank without moving anything onto you, and here 97% of the split arrived after the LoH had already done the job.
  2. Never open Avenging Wrath below 50% with Sacrifice running.
  3. Cleanse Toxins on the tank every time Heartstop Poison lands when the healer is a priest — nobody else in the group can, and it is −30% max health plus 873k over 15 s.
  4. Close the Blade of Justice gaps on bosses: 14 casts in Kystia's 180 seconds where 20 fit.
  5. Nothing to change on cooldowns, kicks or potions — Wings 15 for 15, Wake 27, Toll 14, 13 kicks against 10 expected, 4 potions in 18 minutes.
  6. To the group, not you: Drain Life cannot be interrupted or stunned, so Corrupted Warlocks are the kill target and the healer's target for those 7 seconds; a DPS with Ice Block should press it.

Notes

Where the numbers need a second look

What happened to the key, in order

Five pulls. Pull 1 (0:16, 29 kills) and pull 2 (3:28, 26 kills) were clean. Kystia Manaheart took 3:00 and died at 8:27. Zaen Bladesorrow took 3:32 and died at 13:25, with your death inside it. Pull 5 started at 13:54 with 29 enemies and was where it ended.

The two Drain Life deaths could not have been stopped by anyone in the party. Drain Life (1297682) is a 2-second cast followed by a 7-second channel ticking ~100k a second; Blizzard's own spell table gives it no silence bit, so Rebuke does nothing to it, and Corrupted Warlocks are immune to control — Blinding Sleet, Gorefiend's Grasp, Psychic Scream, Shadowfury and Tightening Grasp all logged IMMUNE against them. Both fatal channels ran their full length: 6 ticks into Arcane Mage, 8 into Demo Lock. The only answers are healing through it, a personal defensive (Arcane Mage never pressed Ice Block all key), or killing the caster first. With the healer gone, none of those happened. You were at 39–49% yourself under a Wrathguard Flayer's Flay bleed during the second channel; your two Flash of Lights on yourself at 16:03–16:05 were justified.

Your death at 10:01, second by second

9:54.3 — Keen Taskmaster (399k) and two Warehouse Workers (238k, 235k) hit Blood DK in the same instant: 72% to 7%.
9:54.5 — you cast Blessing of Sacrifice on him (0.2 s reaction).
9:55.6 — you cast Lay on Hands on him: +879,840, back to 69%. The tank was safe from this point; Guardian Spirit caught him again at 9:58.
9:55.3 to 10:01.6 — 30 DAMAGE_SPLIT ticks moved 1,087,828 onto you. 35,424 of it before the Lay on Hands; 1,052,404 after it. You went 100% → 27%.
9:59.4 — Eternal Flame on yourself, +379,996, back to 70%; the priest added ~190k.
10:00.5 — Avenging Wrath, Execution Sentence, Divine Storm at 42%, Sacrifice still running.
10:01.7 — the Warehouse Worker that had been on the tank at 9:56 swung at you twice: 485,546 and 247,956. Dead from 22%.

Divine Protection had last been used at 8:10 and was available from about 9:14. Divine Shield had been used at 5:56 and may or may not have been back. Across both keys today the Workers swung at the tank 227 times and at a non-tank exactly twice — those two. The log cannot show a threat table, but the Worker was on the tank six seconds earlier and the Wings burst is the only thing that changed.

Two things the record gets wrong here, both worth knowing when you read it: 'Melee 1,467,004 in 4 hits' is 733,502 in 2 — the pipeline counts every swing twice (SWING_DAMAGE and SWING_DAMAGE_LANDED both land in its totals), and the 'Lay on Hands' listed as your defensive was cast on the tank, not on you. Neither is filed as a fix yet; both are now.

Where the 80% comes from

The damage axis divides by the whole 18:14 of the key, so your 18 seconds dead count against you — but you were on Divine Steed 2.8 s after dying and hitting Zaen's adds again at 10:19, so that is not the gap. Swings counted once, DPS while all three of you were alive:

  pull 1 you 349k lock 455k mage 350k
  pull 2 you 409k lock 546k mage 499k
  Kystia you 210k lock 274k mage 267k
  pull 5 you 420k lock 648k mage 493k

That is 65–77% of the lock and 79–100% of the mage, with you at 320 item level to the lock's 320 and the mage's 313. It is the same shape as your last four Ret keys at +14/+15 (0.90, 0.86, 0.86, 0.80 of the other DPS' median), and the archive's same-spec control says it is the spec's position rather than yours.

The one lever the archive has priced is Blade of Justice. Median gap between casts here was 9.0 s (8.35 s in your Blinding Vale +12; a Ret Paladin 7.8 s), so the speed is fine; the loss is the tail — 15 gaps over 20 s, about ten of them in combat, three of them during Kystia, where you cast it 14 times in a 180-second fight that fits 20. The 28% Holy Power overcap is a constant across every Ret key (24–30%) because Hammer of Wrath generates per target hit; it is not a finding. Avenging Wrath 15 for Execution Sentence 15, Wake of Ashes 27, Divine Toll 14, four Potions of Recklessness, 13 kicks against 10 expected — nothing to change there.

Heartstop Poison is yours to remove

Heartstop Poison (474515) reduces maximum health by 30% and deals 872,841 Nature over 15 seconds. It is a Poison, and a Holy Priest cannot dispel Poison — in both keys today you were the only player who could, with Cleanse Toxins on an 8-second cooldown. Here it landed on the tank 5 times and on you once; you cleansed him at 4:35 and 6:14 and yourself at 5:54, and 3 applications ran their course for 34 seconds and 4.4 M. In the earlier key it landed on the tank 9 times; you cleansed 4, and 6 ran for 59 seconds and 7.6 M. Your own 0:34 death in that key had 765k of it in the window. When the party has no priest-proof dispel, the Street Sneak packs are a Cleanse Toxins rotation for you as much as a damage one.
