TipBlinding Light the imp packs on Lithiel

Two chests by one second with no deaths on your sheet — and the Shaman's Skyfury is why your swings, Holy Power and damage all jumped tonight.

Nothing was lost here. 27:12 against a 34:01 par is a two-chest run, and the two-chest line is 27:13 — the four deaths' 1:00 of penalty came within a second of costing it. Balance Druid died three times without pressing a defensive in any of them, and Resto Shaman, a 302 item-level healer in a 320 party, died once; three of the four were to damage every player took (Xathuux's Fel Lightning hit all five of you 24 to 33 times, Defiled Slam six or seven times each) and the last to Lithiel's imps.

You finished at 254k, 104% of the other two damage dealers and the best Murder Row number you have posted as Retribution, up from 219k and 229k in the two +15s earlier tonight. The main reason is not something you changed. This group had a Resto Shaman, and Skyfury logged 272 extra attacks on you — 22% of your swings doubled — taking your auto-attacks from 28 a minute in the 18:44 key to 38 here, and everything that hangs off them. The three top parses this key was measured against all had a Shaman too. What the earlier write-up called an unexplained mechanism was their composition.

Your own play was the night's cleanest: 18 interrupts against 20 expected, eight Cleanse Toxins, five Lay on Hands and a battle resurrection spent on other people, five Sacrifices on the tank, cleanly this time. The one number that went the wrong way is Holy Power waste, 32%, with Blade of Justice pressed at cap 70 times.

How it went

  1. 18:16CascadeBalance Druid and Resto Shaman in 1 s, both to Fel Lightning. Balance Druid went first. 1 of 2 with no defensive pressed.
  2. 22:39Balance Druid to Defiled Slam from Defiled Golem. No defensive pressed.

  4. 26:20Timed with 6:48 to spare.

What to change, biggest first

  1. Nothing to change on kicks, cleanses, externals or cooldowns — this is the key to keep doing.
  2. Spend on three before pressing a plain Blade of Justice: 70 Blades landed at cap, and Skyfury fills the bar faster than it did before.
  3. Bring or find a Shaman when you can — Skyfury is worth about a third more auto-attacks for a Retribution Paladin, and it is most of the gap between your 219k and 254k tonight.
  4. Blinding Light the imp packs on Lithiel the moment they land; 134 Felfire Bursts got through and one of them was the last death.
  5. To Balance Druid, not you: three deaths, zero defensives, and Ursol's Vortex, Typhoon and Incapacitating Roar never pressed.

Notes

Where the numbers need a second look

What the Shaman changed, measured

Same character, same talents, same gear, the same dungeon three times in one evening. The 18:44 key had no Shaman; the 20:46 and 22:53 keys did.

key autos/min doubled swings Skyfury extra attacks dps
  18:44 +15 28.1 0 0 219k
  20:46 +15 40.0 22% 320 229k
  22:53 +14 38.3 22% 272 254k

Skyfury adds an extra auto-attack a fixed fraction of the time, and on a Retribution Paladin every auto-attack is a Crusading Strike: Holy Power every second swing, an Art of War chance to reset Blade of Justice, and fourteen thousand damage. The 22% doubling is the same 25-29% the top three Murder Row +15 Rets showed, and every one of them had a Shaman in the group. When you read a parse — yours or anyone's — check the composition first; a Ret with Skyfury and a Ret without are not on the same scale.

The four deaths, none yours

18:16 and 18:17, inside the 53-enemy pull that ran from 11:47 to 19:02 and included Xathuux: Fel Lightning, the boss's pulse, took Balance Druid for 2.37 M over 14 seconds from 59% and Resto Shaman for 2.35 M over 13 seconds from 89%. You put a Lay on Hands into Balance Druid 3.3 seconds before he died; the pulse kept coming. Neither pressed a personal defensive. Fel Lightning hit every player between 24 and 33 times, so this was a healing race the 302 item-level healer lost — her coverage was 69% of what needed an outside heal, and the report itself flags that this key asked more per second of her than 95% of the keys the scale was cut on.

22:39, Balance Druid again, to Defiled Slam from 54% over eight seconds, no defensive. The Slam hit all five of you six or seven times; standing at 54% when it lands is the only difference between him and the rest of you.

24:52, Balance Druid on Lithiel, to Felfire Burst from the Wild Imps that spawn from Fingers of Gul'dan. 134 of the imps' 167 casts got through. You pressed Blinding Light twice this key, which is twice more than in the earlier ones, and it is still the tool for that room.

Cost: one minute of penalty and a battle resurrection. The run two-chested by 1.1 seconds, so those deaths were very nearly a chest.

Your sheet

Alive and engaged for 23:04. GCD usage 88% — 1,046 presses of the 1,191 the clock allowed — with the idle time in 49 gaps averaging four seconds, which is movement between packs. Auto-attack uptime inside pulls 94%, against 79% in the 18:44 key; the two low pulls were Zaen (70%) and Lithiel (76%), both fights with forced movement.

Generators per engaged minute: Blade 4.6, Judgment 4.2, Hammer of Wrath 4.7, Wake 1.9, Toll 1.0; spenders 23.5. Inside Wings you pressed Hammer of Wrath 12 times a minute and Blade 2.5 — that is the Walk Into Light priority, and it is how the top parses play it too, so it stays. Holy Power: 532 of 1,684 wasted, 32%. Hammer of Wrath's per-target flood (50% of its Holy Power wasted) and auto-attacks at cap (146 events) are structural and cannot be played around; Blade of Justice at 36% with 70 cap events is the part you choose, and Skyfury makes it worse because the bar fills faster now — spend on three before a plain Blade.

Utility: 23 Rebukes for 18 stops (Fel Missiles mostly), 7 Hammers of Justice, 2 Blinding Lights. Heartstop Poison landed four times and you cleansed eight times; it ran for 31 seconds and 1.2 M, against 88 seconds and 11.6 M in the key before, when you cleansed once. Externals: Lay on Hands on Balance Druid three times and the tank once, Sacrifice on Veng DH five times, Blessing of Protection on Arcane Mage, Intercession on Balance Druid. The tank never dropped and neither did you, which is what a Sacrifice is supposed to look like.
