Lack of interruptsStorm Adept bolts, 9 landed vs 2 kicksgroupTipLay on Hands yourself under 50% on a Ground Pound cast

All 17 enemies died; every death came after 1:16, when a second pack added two Storm Adepts and nine Lightning Bolts landed in 20 seconds against two kicks.

This key was not lost to a wipe or to the clock. It was one continuous pull that the group won: all 17 enemies died, the last at 3:02, and the log ends 16 seconds later without saying why the key was dropped. Even with 1:15 of death penalty, the in-game timer would have read about 4:08 of 32:00.

The pull was really two packs. The first, up to 1:16, had one Storm Adept and nobody died, but it used almost everything: Healing Tide, Heroism, Spirit Link (which pulled Hyporock up from 3% at 0:31), and Hyporock's Divine Shield, Divine Protection, Healthstone and potion. The second pack was pulled before the first was dead and had two Storm Adepts. Their Lightning Bolts hit anyone but the tank for 300,000-370,000, and Sandfury Stonefist's Ground Pound, a four-second slam that cannot be kicked and hits all five for 300,000-450,000, landed on top. Ground Pound is in all five death windows and was the killing blow in two.

Whose fault: nobody's alone. What broke was interrupt coverage once two casters were bolting at the same time, plus one arrow that can be sidestepped. Nobody was battle-rezzed: every death was a release and a run of about 180 yards back from the entrance, 16 to 22 seconds out of the fight. Figures that are not in the tables below were read straight from the combat log.

How it went

  1. 1:39CascadeHyporock, Demo Lock and Arcane Mage in 13 s, to Ground Pound and Lightning Bolt. Hyporock went first. No defensive pressed in any of them.
  2. 2:13Demo Lock to Arrow Barrage from Sandswept Hunter. No defensive pressed.

  4. 3:18The key was dropped 3:18 in, with 27:36 left on the timer.

What to change, biggest first

  1. Agree who kicks which Storm Adept before pulling the second pack. Nine bolts landed there in 20 seconds against two kicks, while a Counterspell went on a Stonefist that cannot be kicked and two Wind Shears landed on casts already stopped.
  2. Hyporock: press Lay on Hands when a Ground Pound cast bar is up and you are under half health. It was available when you died at 1:38.
  3. Demo Lock: sidestep Sandburst Arrow. The one that hit you did 95% of your health, and 11 of its 13 casts hit nobody.
  4. Arcane Mage: press Greater Invisibility when you are held low for more than a few seconds. It was never pressed in the key.
  5. Blood DK: keep Mind Freeze on the Storm Adepts until both are dead. It sat ready from 2:09 while two more bolts landed.
  6. Keep the first-pack plan. It took more damage per second than the second pack and nobody died.

Notes

Where the numbers need a second look

Each death, and what was still available

Times are from the key's start. Available means the button was off cooldown in the log.

  • 1:38.7, Hyporock. Blessing of Sacrifice on the tank at 1:31 moved 441,923 of the tank's damage onto Hyporock, which the death entry above does not show. Two bolts then left Hyporock at 47% and 46%, and Ground Pound hit for 405,837 at 41%. Lay on Hands was available: the 30-second lockout (Forbearance) from the Divine Shield at 0:33 had ended at 1:03.
  • 1:38.7, Demo Lock. The same Ground Pound, 450,094, on top of Serrated Charge, the Barbed Krolusks' six-second bleed, which did 802,237 in that window. Nobody in this group can cleanse a bleed; Blessing of Protection removes one, and Hyporock's did, on Arcane Mage at 0:30. Dark Pact was available.
  • 1:52.1, Arcane Mage. Between 18% and 59% for 13 seconds under Arrow Barrage, a channel from the Sandswept Hunters that only ever hit the three ranged players, then from 62% to dead in 0.6 seconds, finished by a bolt. Prismatic Barrier was pressed at 1:39; the entry above misses it. Greater Invisibility was never pressed in the key.
  • 2:12.9, Demo Lock. Back from the run and at full health at 2:09.4, dead 3.5 seconds later to Ground Pound, a bolt down to 7%, and Arrow Barrage. Dark Pact and Unending Resolve were both cooling down. Mind Freeze was available for the whole of that bolt's cast.
  • 2:42.1, Demo Lock. Sandburst Arrow for 864,517, 95% of the Warlock's health bar. Eleven of its thirteen casts in this pull hit nobody, so it can be sidestepped.

Where the kicks went

Lightning Bolt was the cast that mattered. The one Storm Adept in the first pack started 8 and landed 2. The two in the second pack started 25 and landed 11.

At 1:26, Rebuke and Counterspell went out 0.3 seconds apart. The Counterspell was on a Sandfury Stonefist, whose casts cannot be kicked, so it stopped nothing and was not back until 1:48. From 1:31 both Adepts were landing bolts: nine landed by 1:52 and two were kicked. The deaths at 1:38 then took Rebuke out for 16 seconds and the felhunter's Spell Lock for 21. Wind Shear was pressed twice on a cast a teammate had just stopped, 0.1 seconds late at 0:11 and 0.4 seconds late at 1:54. Mind Freeze came back at 2:09 and was not pressed again while two more bolts landed.

Arbiter's header line counts the same thing over the whole pull: 13 of 21 reachable casts stopped.

Read these numbers carefully

This is one pull, not a key: 2:52 of combat, filed as abandoned and provisional (under ten minutes of combat, so it is kept out of calibration). Every grade on this page describes 172 seconds.

  • Two of Resto Shaman's deductions are the tool's, not theirs. The dispel score charges them for Serrated Charge, a bleed a Restoration Shaman cannot remove; the one removal was Hyporock's Blessing of Protection. The mechanics deduction is Spirit Link, their own totem sharing health across the party, and at 0:31 it healed Hyporock for 461,733 from 3%. Their biggest weight, throughput, is scored against whole keys, which average in quieter fights; its own note says to read it as a floor. One of their three Wind Shears did land, on a Shrouded Fang's Poisoned Cheap Shot, and is not counted.
  • Arcane Mage's 'never pressed: Ice Block' is wrong. They took Ice Cold, the talent that replaces it, and pressed it at 0:31.
  • The ilvl column disagrees with Raider.IO for three players: Resto Shaman 299 against 317, Arcane Mage 300 against 319, Demo Lock 295 against 315. Nothing here relies on it.
  • Blood DK was Blood, not Unholy. The log's spec id is 250, and the buttons pressed were Blood's: Heart Strike, Marrowrend, Vampiric Blood and Dancing Rune Weapon. Vampiric Strike and the Blood Beast come from San'layn, a hero talent tree Blood can take.

Player by player

  • Hyporock. Did well: the most damage in the group, three kicks and a Hammer of Justice on an Adept, and a Blessing of Protection at 0:30 that also took a bleed off Arcane Mage. To change: Lay on Hands at 1:38. Blessing of Sacrifice is a trade, and at 1:31 it cost you 441,923 health just as the bolts started landing on you.
  • Blood DK. Did well: no deaths while taking all seven Sunder Slams. To change: Mind Freeze sat ready for the last 25 seconds of the Adepts' lives.
  • Resto Shaman. Not your fault: the dispel and mechanics deductions above, and 6 of the 13 bolts that landed were on you. Did well: the Spirit Link that saved Hyporock. To change: two of three Wind Shears landed on casts already stopped.
  • Arcane Mage. Did well: the second-most damage and three kicks. To change: Greater Invisibility during the 13 seconds under 60% before 1:52, and keep Counterspell for the Adepts.
  • Demo Lock. Not your fault: the first death's bleed, which nobody but a Blessing of Protection could have removed. To change: sidestep Sandburst Arrow, and press Dark Pact while a Ground Pound is casting if you are already low; it was available at 1:38 and pressed at 1:56.
