TipHold Divine Protection for Merektha's Thunder Spit

Timed by 44 seconds, about what Hyporock's three deaths cost on their own.

The key was timed with 44 seconds left. Hyporock had three of its five deaths. Thunder Spit on Merektha killed him and later Arms Warrior in the same way, with a few ticks and then a hit of about 900k. Two Agitated Nimbus Release Charges 2 seconds apart finished him in the next pull. A Spark Channeler's Loose Sparks then one-shot him from full health. Resto Shaman went down once to a Krolusk's Serrated Charge bleed with Cytotoxin on top, and came back with Reincarnation. Hyporock was also the party's poison dispeller and cleansed 18 poisons.

The party's poison dispeller

Every poison cleanse in the key was yours. You took Cytotoxin off all but two of the times it landed, usually within 3 seconds.

The one change

PRESSDivine Protection

WHEN
On Merektha, hold it for Thunder Spit about 25 seconds in, and use Divine Shield if Protection is down
WHY
You pressed Divine Protection at 12:20 at full health with nothing landing. Thunder Spit marked you 9 seconds later and killed you with it on cooldown, while Divine Shield was ready and unused.
PAYOFF
One fewer death on the boss, and you stay in the fight that has to be funnelled

What to change, biggest first

  1. Merektha: whoever Thunder Spit marks presses a defensive during the cast.
  2. Hyporock: hold Divine Protection on Merektha for the first Thunder Spit.
  3. Nimbus pulls: plan a raid cooldown for two Release Charges landing together.

What the group changes together

Merektha is where this key nearly ran out of time. Thunder Spit marks two players about 25 seconds in and again later in the fight. Whoever is marked should press a defensive during the 3-second cast, because only some targets take the big final hit and the log can't show which ones in advance. In the Nimbus pull, two Release Charges went out 2 seconds apart. Agitated Nimbus is immune to stuns and kicks, so the party has to take that pair with a raid cooldown or personals.

Notes

Where the numbers need a second look

What sets off Thunder Spit's big hit

From the 5 Temple keys on file with a Merektha kill. Thunder Spit's final hit (spell 1291734, a 4-yard area) landed on 3 of the 24 marked players. Every marked player standing 12 yards or more from Merektha avoided it, but most players in melee range did too, so distance alone doesn't explain it. Treat it as unpredictable and defend every Spit. The ticks before it are about 200k a second at +17.

Where the report reads wrong

Spark Step accounts for most of Resto Shaman's and Arcane Mage's avoidable-damage charge. It landed 32 times on the two ranged players and about once on each melee player, which looks more like a ranged-only mechanic than something they failed to dodge. Hyporock's dispels don't appear on his card because Arbiter scores dispels for healers only.
